  • IPAW board meetings will be held the second Tuesday of the month from 11:00-1:00 until further notice.

III.   Old Business

  • Economic Impact Statements – Undersander and Strachota met with ASTA.  It was agreed that the list would remain unchanged, but species with economic importance would be stated as such.  Intent is to involve the Nurserymen in the process.  Strachota will add footnote to justify the numbers.  Add “Cost of Control” on natural areas document.  Board to get changes to Strachota within next two weeks.  Kearns or Braker will get Strachota alternatives for natural areas.  Ask science committee specific questions.  Ashley will send Strachota a summary of comments then send out statements to board, Kearns, and Staffen, asking for comments again.  Braker and Strachota will identify which species need to be listed for natural areas.  Braker will pull list together and send to Craig Annen and Chris Reyes, Science Committee co-chairs  Possibly pull in Lisa Johnson from UW-Extension to help write it up.  Kearns will talk with Greg Long.  End product will be put on website with a few links to access them.  Science committee could help with cost per acre of control.
  • Status of newsletter articles – Dave Beckmann can only help with one or two more newsletters, but will help get a new layout person started.  Staffen will ask Susan Slapnick, who currently works with the Campus Natural Areas website, if she would be interested in helping with the IPAW newsletter.  Main function will be to format newsletter four times per year.  Hamel will ask Beckmann for an estimate of hours.  Articles for next newsletter need to be to Beckmann by Monday, February 21st.  Mailing second week of March.  Newsletter articles:

Staffen – Invasive Species Awareness Month and actions landowners can take

Undersander – Summary of Nancy’s work with IPAW (postponed until next newsletter)

IV. New Business:

  • Education committee and website (Staffen) – Staffen will meet with website committee, Tom Brock and Kelly Kearns to develop material for IPAW website, review website and solicit people to provide content.  Ashley to look for resolution in IPAW files about the process for approving website material.  Board agreed website committee should be subcommittee of education committee.

  • 2005 IPAW Conference (Kearns) – IPAW may be able to  hook in with the WI Wetlands Association Conference to be held late January, early February 2006.  Madison is the location and the prices are kept low.  Wetland invasives would likely be the focus of possibly the second half of one day and the third day could focus on species other than wetland invasives.  Kearns will check to see if they need a formal letter of commitment.  Ashley will send a list of IPAW members interested in helping with the conference to Kearns and Staffen.
