  2. I would like to join and be an active member in your association, but where are the meetings held?

  3. I read an article on the IPAW website about garlic mustard. This text had a Wisconsin map showing the locations of garlic mustard concentrations. In order to cite it correctly, I would need the author and date it was written. If you could find this information I would appreciate it.

  4. I am working on miscanthus as a sabbatical leave project. Who can I talk to about miscanthus in Wisconsin, where is it and why is it on the invasive plant list.... Miscanthus sacchariflorius.

  5. Last year I noticed a large patch of garlic mustard at a Boy Scout camp in western Kenosha/Racine Counties. We have made arrangements with the ranger to allow an eradication effort ..., using several troops.
Are there any technical advisors or other training materials available that would help us train 30 people in proper identification and removal technique? If this is successful, it is hoped that an Eagle Scout project would blossom to do an eradication at ... In that latter event, are there experts who can help us convince administration of the necessity?

  6. My wife and I will soon be living in Marshall on 30 acres of land of which 20 are wetlands, 5 oak savanah and 5 woods. The bad news is that it has been used for pasture for the last 15 years. I've been told that we have reed canary grass, multiflora rose, box elder plus others.
My problem is that I am a city boy that is not sure what these look like at various times of the year. What do you recommed to help identify and remove these invasives?
I am especially looking for something that I can carry with me when we are out walking the land. Does anyone sell a small loose leaf book/binder that can have pages added as new species or techniques are found?

  7. What experience have folks had with the effect of spring burn on raspberry brambles in an oak woodland? My DNR forester is concerned that fire would stimulate rather than help suppress brambles and is recommending mechanical control + herbicide instead. My preference is to run fire first, then use mechanical control approach. Any thoughts/experiences/anecdotes are greatly appreciated! Oh yes, we're in Iowa County in Wisconsin.

Answers

1. Our website, www.ipaw.org has several good links. I'd recommend the one for the Wisconsin DNR (see the list of invasive plants, Buckthorn is listed as a tree).

2. Anyone can join, and a membership form can be downloaded from our website www.ipaw.org/join_ipaw.htm.

Our board meetings are normally held in Madison, but some of the board
members participate by phone and occasionally a member joins us that way as well. The agendas are sent via our email distribution service provided by yahoo groups. Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IPAW/ to join this list. Meeting dates are also posted on the web site.

Our committees meet in various locations, depending on the make up and geographical location of the committee members. Right now the most active committees are the website committee, education committee and science committee. You can get contact information for the chairs of those committees from our web page as well.

For more information about membership, e-mail Membership@IPAW.org

10. Krenite is a Dupont product. We purchased it in Madison from an agricultural supply vendor that is unfortunately no longer in business. One possibility would be ProSource One, an herbicide vendor, which is located in Madison at 2801 Packers Avenue, 249-8500. Submitted by Tom Brock.
